Campaign videos Deaf Youth Fighting Against Climate Change
During the EUDY Youth Camp in Portugal from August 10th to 20th, 2023, for participants aged 18 to 30, and the EUDY Junior Camp in Austria from July 22nd to 29th, 2023, for participants aged 13 to 17, individuals from over 20 different European countries met. They learned about climate change and made videos showing how humans have affected the Earth.
At both the Youth Camp and Junior Camp, there were different trainers and experts who are deaf and know a lot about and experts related to climate change topics. The topics are such as environmental health, sustainable fashion, and carbon footprint reduction. After listening to these lectures and involving in workshops, the participants gained knowledge and insights about climate change.
On the final day of each camp, the facilitators asked participants in groups to select a topic they learned about and make a video about it on their phones. In these videos, most participants demonstrate the effects of climate change on different topics and areas. They also show positive practices and solutions on how people can improve or change their actions and behavior, like recycling and using less energy. Some videos featured participants using gestures exclusively, while others include English subtitles.
